Prom Night

Palmetto prom was not expected to be fun this year. With it being in the gym and not at an exciting location many people were dissapointed in the lack of interest in making the senior's "Senior Prom" special. It was decorated by professional decoraters, and the theme was around the world. The DJ was not the best either. However, the teens that chose to go tried to make the best of it and we did. We danced, laughed, and had a great time. The kids that won King, Queen, Prince, and Princess were the one's who deserved it. The after parties were even better. All together the prom was not the ideal prom, however if you made the best of it you had fun.

Growing Up too Fast

    Children today are not the stereotypical toddlers or elementary schoolers we all used to be or know. Instead of picture books, theres ipad and kindles. Instead of house phones and cd's, theres cellphones and ipods. There are different styles of clothes that are more revealing and require makeup to complete their look. The types of TV shows they watch are influencing in a bad way. They no longer watch Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, they would rather watch Jersey Shore because that is what the media is promoting. The language, and hand gestures are used more and profanity is more knowledgeable by younger kids. It is kind of a problem, but yet it is just the proven fact that society is changing.

The Lucky One

  If you are a total romantic, and have faith in lost hope; this movie is for you. Sitting in the theatre watching this movie I found myself forgetting about the changes from the book because the plot was revised so well and different that it was barley comparable, but yet closley compatible. The Lucky One follows a U.S. marine, Logan Thibault on his journey to find the girl in the picture he found and carries as his good luck charm. Throughout the movie he finds the girl and embarks on a journey he never expected. Finding her, Logan realizes she is no longer the young, and carefree women he sees her as in the picture. Beth is a mother of a young son, a divorce' trying to get past the tight hold that her ex's town legacy has on her, and a grandaughter unwillingly taking over the long-time family business. Logan presents himself as a helpful and listening man and unexpectedly falls in love with Beths sense of opinions and outlook on life, and Beth falls for his too. If you are one to find more entertainment in un-predectable movies this is not the movie for you, but if you are one to love happy endings with a twisted story-line you will find yourself smiling and content with the outcome as you walk out the the theatre after watching this movie.

Nike Sells out Reebok for NFL logo 2012

 After all the rumors and hype over the past few months, Nike finally bought out Reebok for the 2012 logo on the NFL uniforms. The 32 teams reviled their new uniforms, and there is really not anything different than last year. The only changes that are extremely apparent on the team uniforms are the fly-wire collars and the fabric difference. Yes of course, there will still be the same logos and the same number design, the changes wont be noticeable to anyone besides the eagle-eyed football fan.
The Seattle Sea-hawks however, have a semi-big change. The colors are changed. The new color is a action green, which  along with the ocean blue accent color to represent the ocean water for the Sea-hawks will represent the trees and landscape for them.
Another cool thing is the 1/2 and 1/2 logo on the gloves when each player puts there palms up and crossed. It created the illusion that the gloves create one picture of the teams mascot.
Although some changes in the uniforms for the NFL are a little different, in no way did Nike alter the fashion of the NFL to un-thinkable heights. The changes are not horrible but they are not great, they are just simple changes that are supposed to boost up the players confidence in what they are wearing while they play the game that they love.

Spin-offs, fail to take-off

 We all know of dis-continued shows or movies in the past. All of a sudden these have become more apparent in the media. A lot of reality spin-offs are being broadcast-ed and piloted but quickly becoming extremely unsuccessful and viewers are quickly becoming un-interested. These so called " reality spinoffs" are created by producers in order to keep the viewers in any way possible. They dream up the new show idea because certain people or celebs refuse to re-up their contract or they move settings or jobs and the show no longer has the same appeal without the same characters or the same places. Unsuccessful shows like 'The City' which was formerly part of 'The Hills' has not lasted and gotten near as many viewers and media attention. Recently aired 'The Pauly D Project' is a spin-off of most popular MTV series 'The Jersey Shore' was predicted to have a mass amount of viewers and did not live up to it's standards.
There are a few more spin-offs in work, like a toddler off of TLC's 'Toddlers and Tiaras' is said to be aired sometime in the fall, hopes are high for this show but expectations of a long-term film process are not in immediate planning.

Lack of Interest In: Showing More than Ever with the PHS Cheerleaders

 Certain sports at Palmetto High School seem to be forgotten about. It makes the athletes feel that there is no point to participate because if the school doesn't care, we don't. It's not the coaches fault the majority of the time. I feel like it is the lack of interest and commitment of Palmetto's athletic program. If someone of importance would take a step back and at the least, observe and watch the PHS cheerleaders, they would realize how apparent it is that we are not among one of the most supported "sports team" at the school. I feel like every year since I was a freshman their seems to be less and less involvement of PHS with the cheerleaders. I'm constantly hearing about "budget cuts" being the excuse as to why we cannot do certain things, or receive certain items. Often times, it seems like the cheerleaders and a select other few clubs and teams are the only ones that suffer the consequences of budget cuts. I'm not saying it's a bad thing for the sports that are focused on at school, I love seeing the shiny new uniforms, matching warmups, and donated new shoes for the athletes to wear and be proud of. But, considering that I have yet to receive a t-shirt to represent the sport that I am involved in on spirit day is a little discouraging. I also enjoy seeing athletes such as the football players and rowers pumped and excited for their next game or regatta, I just wish the cheerleaders could experience that kind of excitement and support. But instead of being pumped and excited, as senior year approaching and tryouts coming up fast I am finding myself wondering which obstacles my team is going to face this year in order to even function. I guess part of my bitterness towards all of this is my attitude, but an even bigger part of my frustration is because this is the reality I sign up for every year when I tryout to do something I love, and it's unfair and needs to change.

The Hunger Games: Review

"May the Odds be Ever in your Favor"

 Last night, at midnight I went to see the extremely hyped up book-transformed into movie sensation. It was worth being up til 3 in the morning and having to wake up the next day for, yes, it was that good. The way I imagined the book related to the movie greatly, and the producers and scene-makers did an amazing job at interpreting the details and scenic descriptions of the buildings, wilderness, make-up, and even the characters themselves. The movie was a little shortened, however, taking out little bits and pieces of the book that weren't as important; but the movie was easily adjusted to the changes. These changes probably helped the story-line flow faster and easier for the viewers that didn't read the book. While reading the book  I realized you have to have a huge imagination because if you do not have a visual representation, the book is extremely difficult to follow and easy to get lost in. But thanks to the movie, this is no longer a problem. Over all, this movie lives up to its expectations and the actors are amazing, and stepped up to the plate to impress the readers.

Tebow on the Move

   Talks are in the works about Tebow getting traded since the Bronco's want open agent Peyton manning since he was let go from the Colts. Tebow is not very promising says media, and nobody is setting high expectations for the former star quarterback of the Gators. The 49-ers are looking at him, as well as a slect few other teams. Also in talks has been the 3 new players that the Buccaneers signed, but alot of floridians were hoping for Tebow to be our new quarterback. Tebow being back in the Tampa Bay area would definitely bring out more fans to the games and prevent the black out. Students from UF and his hometown would for sure come out to watch their home-town star.

McKechnie Baby for life

 Earlier this week a surprise came about to the opening celebration at Mckechnie Baseball Field in Bradenton. An expecting mom went to this event to check out the festivities, enjoy the social time, and of course eat the never ending junk food that the event provided. And right then and there the local Bradenton women went into labor and had the baby. It was a memorable day at the field and everyone was estatic about the new little boy that was born that day. As a token of excitement, the Pittsburg Pirates gave a certificate to the newborn saying that he is a Pirates kids member for life. The mother and child are safely at Manatee Memorial Hospital recovering.

Hungry for the Hunger Games

  The books that has everyone's attention is coming to theatres and has quickly risen to a top seller. I have read the book and it lives up to its reputation. The Hunger Games follows a young girl, 16, named Katniss who bravely takes the place of her younger sister in order to win food for her district or country in a fight til the death. It shows the whole process, through preparing for the games, the people she meets, and then through the actual games. It's a book that promotes integrity, dedication, independence, and self-help. Along the way Katniss learns that although she could win all on her own, the journey by herself is lonely and she starts to miss her partner, Peeta and they finish the games together, as a pair. I'm extremely excited to see the movie, and I really hope it does the book justice.

Hidden themes of Super Bowl ads

Super Bowl XLVI is on this coming Saturday, February 5, millions of Americans will be watching the New England Patriots against the New York Giants while sharing finger foods, beer and sodas. These people will be commenting and discussing the play action passes, blind side sacks, and a couple of the biggest franchise quarterbacks scrambling in and out of pockets to throw a touchdown. But for me, and lots of other people the football game being played is the least of our excitment. I am watching the game purely for the commercials. According to researchers, over half of the people watching the Super Bowl are only watching it for the commercials. These commercials are a huge investment, and a huge source of entertainment. The spots for a singal commercial is easily a couple million dollars. Behind each commericial is a hidden goal that each producers tries to trigger. One of them is the quest to bring out your inner child. Another goal is to bring out our affection for animals. And the final one, which could be portrayed in a good, and a bad way is sex. These goals can have an effect on everybody, from a little boy to an old women. They are forsure a gurentee to make you laugh.

Exams

It's hard to set aside a time to study. There's a lot of distractions and things that cause us students to lose focus. Getting good grades in school is hard to keep up with, especially when you have to balance school, and sports, and your social life. For me personally, I have to completely set aside all the distractions in order to focus and register what I am reading or studying. This is especially the case with exams coming up this week. The distractions also include the timing of year, every January the county fair comes around and it is the exact week of exams. This causes students that are involved in FFA or talents. This is a time that there is no time for procrastination and distractions. We need to focus, and do good on exams!
